Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me what you believe this cartoon is trying to say. Do you agree or disagree with this idea? Try and look at this from two different perspectives. What is your perspective? What would be an adult/teacher's perspective?
I think that the cartoon is trying to say that the youth of America, and the population in general, have become complacent in their power. The author is saying that compared to some of the cultures with the leading educations, America is lagging behind due to a culture that doesn't value education as much as it should. I completely agree with the message that the image is conveying. The dropout rates in America are astronomical and there is no culutural value placed on education. Education is largely viewed as a chore as opposed to the privelage that it truly is. I believe that as a student, the current state of America, and the expectations of America as a whole are completely deplorable. Parents and students on a whole do not place nearly enough of an emphasis on education, instead recieving only a remedial education (if that) and placing much more value on social image, or to a more extreme extent, furthering gang cultures.
